Taking off the blinders
Students often get attracted into various colleges for the wrong reasons. This activity will help them realize what all colleges offer up in order to distract them from the bare basics of academics.
By the end of the activity students should realize that there are many reasons to go to college but they should find a college based on the idea of academics first.

- Divide everyone into small groups of 3-5 people
- Give each group and assigned school title: State University, Liberal Arts College, Community College, etc.
- Ask each group to make a list of how they are going to attract students into their school.
- Make each group share their ideas.
- Finally point out how many of the ideas were based on academics and how many were "distractions" (ie. football program, high end dining facilities, etc.)
By the end of the activity students should realize that there are many reasons to go to college but they should find a college based on the idea of academics first.
